FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Pro-Scan Bundle is a curated package designed for New Zealand professionals who need to model from real-world conditions. It includes a full SketchUp Pro subscription (SketchUp for Desktop, LayOut, and PreDesign) paired with Trimble Scan Essentials.

This combination allows you to import point cloud data directly into SketchUp to ensure your 3D models are millimetre-accurate to the site.

While SketchUp Pro is fully compatible with macOS, it is important to note that Trimble Scan Essentials is currently a Windows-only extension.

For Kiwi designers using Mac hardware, you would need to run Windows via Boot Camp or Parallels, or ideally, use a dedicated Windows workstation to utilise the point cloud features of this bundle.

The Pro-Scan Bundle is highly versatile and supports a wide range of industry-standard point cloud formats.

You can import data from terrestrial laser scanners, mobile mapping, and drone captures. Supported file types include E57, LAS, LAZ, TZF, and PLY. This is particularly useful for NZ surveyors and architects working on heritage renovations or complex site topographies.

Precision is key for New Zealand consent applications. By using Scan Essentials, you can create “as-built” models that are 100% faithful to the existing structure.

When you take these models into LayOut (included in the bundle), you can produce 2D plans, sections, and elevations with high-accuracy dimensions.

This reduces the risk of errors during the construction phase and provides Council with clear, verifiable documentation.

Point clouds contain millions of data points, which can be resource-heavy.

For a smooth modelling experience in NZ, we recommend a computer with a dedicated graphics card (GPU), a fast processor, and at least 16GB–32GB of RAM. Trimble Scan Essentials is highly optimised, allowing you to manage even massive datasets quite fluidly, but a robust workstation will ensure the best performance.

When you purchase the Pro-Scan Bundle through BuildingPoint NZ, you aren’t just buying software; you’re gaining access to local expertise.

We provide NZ-based technical support to help you with installation, troubleshooting, and workflow optimisation.

Our team understands the local NZ construction standards and can help you integrate point cloud data into your specific practice.
